Open the door...
no one there.
Close the door...
nobody cares.
No family,
no barking dog.
Don't know where they went.
Nothing left
but tangled, brown weeds
appoaching the house...
with evil intent.

There are so many people losing their homes lately due to the mortgage crisis. This is about one of those homes, down the street from me.

Yo Ida,

Look for many more of the same, as long as there is a Republican in the White House.

A very touching poem and very concerning situation; hoping things get better soon!

This does hit home. Just lost my house, lol! Oh well, saves me the trouble of burning it down.

You must be writing about the house I grew up in. Maybe the ghosts have abandoned it now that it has fallen in.

Ida, this touches me.

An abandoned house is one of the saddest visions, as you so powerfully convey, dear Ida. It holds so many memories within its walls and the bitterness of having to leave it ... a sad situation, which is assuming worrying dimensions.

Love,
Margherita

Thank you for caring, Ida.  Your poem is beautiful and very effective.

Margherita, I agree with you wholeheartedly.

Brett, the tears that were originally for the poem, then for the real house and owners when I read Ida's explanation, then became tears for you (not pity, I know you don't want that and I don't feel pity for nice people anyway) because I really feel for you.  On many occasions, it has been touch and go for me as regards losing my house - and the monetary value is the very least of my priorities.  In the last while now - well up to 3 days ago - it has been very close and it could arise again a few months down the line depending on a number of things.  Brett, I wish you and your family strength, courage and a surprisingly happy new life.

nodding...

I look at the houses, empty, and I see the "tent" (cardboard, actually) cities under the overpasses of the bridges here, and I wonder what has gone so horribly wrong in our world...

thank you Ida

That is a very sad picture you paint Ida but I.m sure you are not writing about your own place. I do feel for all those poor folk who have lost their homes but it is just the same over here. Living standards have been so good for so long that people get used to buying anything they want and consequently live above their means. My heart goes out to them all.
