you said you were imperfect
in how your god placed your earth
around the soft of your heart
with no place for my hands
but you knew I would continue

reaching into your long shirt sky
and moving between the clouds
whispering on some sunday mornings
how your eyes are lovely with diamonds
that melt into water when you let them

I could take your boots off too
without you pushing me away
there are other ways to heal
and other ways to make you wounded
and did you ever wonder in bare feet

why you hadn't finished dressing
