TO TOUCH THESE WORDS

Touch these words tenderly
For they are just thin strings
Of fragile phrases
Loosely crocheted into images
That cannot cover the
White nakedness of my soul

Please handle these words with care
Let them tiptoe silently into your eye
And be whispered in little breaths and sighs

For it is my being that you mouth
With expectant lips
And it is my heart that you are
Tossing back and forth as you
Ponder their significance

In one breath
You could inhale an entire poem
And perhaps savor
The fragrance of who you
Perceive me to be

But I say, let each word swirl a bit on your tongue
And rest in your eye
Give each phrase a chance to settle into
Comfortable corners of your mind

And when it is ready to be inhaled
You will breathe in deeply,
not my words, not my phrases
but rather the longings, the pain, the peace,
the sorrow, the glory- the essence that is you

And that is what will make it beautiful

This is exquisite, Elizabeth.  It should be read first at every performance of poetry reading and the foreword of every poetry book.  I found it delicious.

WONDERFUL! I love this, it's absolutely beautiful, so sensitive, so generous, so loving, you speak the soul of poetry.

It's a great joy to have you posting, dear Elisabeth!

Okay I have to admit, I did swish the wine around in my mouth and savor it but then, I sat it down and drank in every single word of this beautiful piece. (I am serious now.) Missing you dear lady, missing you.

Dearest Liz...it is wonderful to sip the essence of such a lovely person, made real by words. A fine wine indeed!  I've missed you very much!

Echoing Sharon's reply.
Savoring each sip of this 'rare' offering.

You truly warm my heart, dear friends, with your response to this poem.
It's good to peek in at passions once in a while. My projects don't allow much time for me to write.
Love ya's
Liz
