Promises, Promises

Promises, promises is all I ever got
Of which none were ever true
Only words of great hope I’d hear
That’s what I always got from you

Yet, you always wondered why
I no longer believed what you’d say
You took my trust for granted
And, threw it all away

There were those promises of
Never hurting me in any way
Those promises proved so untrue
Because you hurt me everyday

Love until the very end of time
You had promised me, too
Then it seemed you had changed
Those words were so untrue

I gave you all I had to give
I couldn’t have given you more
I opened up my heart to you
Which I had never done before

The most important thing here is
To you, I had opened up my heart
Your promises of love it seemed
Was just pretend, right from the start

I don't know, but for me, I've hardened my heart, and I don't need any scars to remind me.

I can feel the pain in this one, Oklahoma Rose.
