Angelo’s cousin Robert
went to prison
when he was eighteen.

Robert was Sally’s
sister’s boy.

He was born
in Nazi Germany.

He had a Swastika
on his birth certificate.

Robert was a good looking kid
when he went to prison.

Sure, he was a bad actor,
a menace to society.
He had to be sent away.

He was too good looking
for his own good.

The guys in prison
liked Robert a lot.

They gave him a case
of Hepatitis “B”.

Robert was dead
by twenty-eight
of liver disease.

The family never forgave
the prison system
for letting that happen
to Robert.

Bobby

Thanks dear Yann,

It would be great if it was just a story.  Then my nephew would be still with us.

Dear Robert E. Jordan,

I'd consider cutting the last line.  As usual, a fine poem.  BobK.

Bob K,

Thanks for the kind words on the poem.  The last strophe stays, family is family.

LindsayP,

Thanks for your kind condolences, and your words on the poem.  Yes, the family thinks about poor Robert often.

Thanks dear Alison,

In truth, Robert did not have a good life at all.  I think his only happy time was probably during his short crime spree, and that's a pity.

Thanks dear BugBuggy,

You speak the truth.  The youth of our country do need a break.  Did you ever notice the young people here do all the really heavy lifting, like going to war.

Thanks for your kind condolences.

Thanks dear Midnitesun,

Yes, it was very sad what happened to Robert.  It never should have been allowed to happen.

Life is such a hard lesson for some. Man's inhumanity to man is often astounding.
