Magnolia Blue

The highway plays tricks on the eyes;
distant mirages – reality – dreamscape –
I saw the future sitting zen-like on the centerline –
Texas 36, between the last place and the next.
My future, dark hair cropped just below the ear lobes,
big, silver, circular ear-rings,
sky-blue eyes the size of Magnolia blossoms,
t-shirt, jeans, flip-flops, blue-painted toenails.
She wasn’t there when my TR-3 stopped rolling.

Closed my eyes. Next mirage.

U.S. 290 through Giddings,
still seeing Magnolia Blue eyes
over the next rise,
in the haze of distance,
hood ornament almost in reach –
silhouette in the sun setting gold
in a sky the color of my red TR-3,
tricks on the eyes – today’s reality.

Another hundred miles,
headlights spotting white dashes on the road,
G’s  around a deer tempting fate,
wishing for a bottomless tank,
rubber on concrete eating the miles,
Hendrix stringing me along,
knowing sleep will dissipate the haze –
looking for the next mirage . . .

Magnolia Blue eyes.

Jwesley,

Yeah, this works well.  What is a TR-3?

Bobby, this isn't a picture of mine, but is what mine looked like ... was a 1959 model. Sadly, don't have it anymore. (You may have to copy and past the link into your search engine.)Red (2nd) picture.

J.  I hope you catch up to those Magnolia Blue eyes.  Your turn of a descriptive phrase is poetry at it's best.  Thanks for sharing

Wow, all I ever see is like a old shoe on the side of the road, or a blue screen on a monitor, oh snap, forget about the monitor, that's real. Thanks for the ride along Jimmy, and Jimmy H in the background was a nice touch. That must have been one sweet car.

Jimmy, I checked out the link you posted in a reply. When I was a teenager ~ many moons ago ~ my boyfriend had a Triumph TR 3 ~ or 4? I cannot recall which. However, I do recall how much fun it was bombing around in it! Thanks for the memories!

Enjoyed your easy breezy poem and all the nice thoughts it brought to mind! I can picture it all!
