West Virginia

God looked down from Heaven on a sunny beautiful day and said;
Now what's become of my Mountain tops,
it looks like some fool's carried them away?
So he asked the woodland creatures
the fishes and the fowl
What has become of my beautiful Mountains I made so long ago?
Who desecrated my high places and brought them low?

And they said; it is the Man you placed among us,
the one nobody can trust.
The Owl said, who?
They said: the Man made from the dust.
God said; tell me it isn't so.
They said; you already know it's so,
it was all said before, long, long, ago.
What we want to know
is how long you'll let him go
till none of us have a home?
Many are the times we've regretted the day you made this Man
Now tell us again, just exactly what is your plan?

And God said; Come and see, take a look
it's all written down in my Holy book.

And they said. that's what we were afraid of.
Now tell us, what good is a Holy book
if the Man doesn't know how to read it?

And God said; My truth is hidden in the lines,
scattered among the random rhymes
in his own time he'll find it soon enough.

Nature said; your thoughts are high up above us
we can only hope and trust you know what you're doing
because it seems the Earth is moving towards destruction......

And God said: My Book is the book of instruction
the how to of the construction of a righteous Man
worry yourselves not, my plan will work perfectly
Take a look, come and see
how this Man of dust has lived deliciously
with a woman who is not his wife.
Across the Earth I've spread my net
woven with sorrow so he won't forget
upon himself I've placed the debt
that can only be paid by his free will.
With his bombs and bullets he tries to kill a ghost that won't die
feeling sorry for himself he cries
but I refuse to answer when all he has to offer is an alibi.
Now be still for it kills the Maker to see such a sight
as the Mountains made by my hand destroyed
with such careless abandon
by a people who don't know me at all.

Then Nature said; May the God of mercy and compassion bless us One in all
and may God's child grow up fair and tall and walk among us in harmony
and may peace be placed in his hand
as we make our way to the promised land.

Joe Crow,

I'd try and do something with that one long line.

Yo Joe Crow,

I used to live in West Virginia.  I loved my coal mining neighbors, they're good people.

"Salt tears, the Great Spirit cried" ~ Joe, forgive me for using a line out of one of my own poems, but it seemed to fit my reply to your own words.

"Then Nature said; May the God of mercy and compassion bless us One in all
and may God's child grow up fair and tall and walk among us in harmony
and may peace be placed in his hand
as we make our way to the promised land."

~ An up-lifting, inspirational closing to a very fine write by a very fine spirit!

Love & God's 'Natural' Light,
Linda
