The Silence of Why

For Orish Grinstead,
Deceased, April 20, 2008

He is reputed to be
A lifelong drunk, still
His liver hums along
Like a fine tuned,
Well oiled machine
At four score and one!

She was an angel
With invisible wings,
So vibrant, full of life,
Reputed to be a virgin
At a score and eight . . .

Alas, in these latter years,
She walked barefoot
In fields of broken glass,
Bleeding, but not inclined
Toward complaining!

She was my inspiration,
Said one . . .
She renewed my faith,
Said another . . .
Now she is a spirit

In a matrix undefined,
A place of imagining
In the limitations of mind.
I will not ask why---
O thou small, hollow, word!

No! I will not ask why!
For there is never an answer!
As if God speaks to the question
In a language incomprehensible
To mortal ears!

She suffered from liver disease for a decade and, finally, when a liver match was found,  her body was too far gone to receive it.

She was a gifted young lady, and she gave liberally.

Art,

This is a good tribute, and a sad story.

Gilead,

I am sorry for this loss. Recently I've been
having to ask "why", with no immediate answer,
even though trickles of thought
let me know
I am not alone.

Thanks for your encouraging thought, sunshine. It's useless to despair while waiting for those trickles of understanding that come with enduring hardship with grace.

I find myself responding to such whys by also remembering each step of the subject in question ..... HE tends to surround himself with those that have such hidden strengths!

... the answer is within those steps

a great tribute!

Thanks for your comment, Hope. I am hoping  your friend finds solitude and contentment through his struggle. My prayer is sent up for him.

Best wishes,

I am so sorry to hear about your friend, Art. Life is indeed a mystery, noone knows that better than I do. Sometimes I think that the people who stick around longer are chosen because they are able to relate certain messages to others either by circumstance or through understanding and unusual skills.
