Confusion reigns as astral planes lay scattered at first light. Perform a vital systems check and hope it comes out right. A coffee-mug-a-chug-a-lug and grope the daily news, then open door unto a world wherein one pays his dues. Computer check as you'd expect and then the fun begins, producing wigits by the ton, the business that I'm in. We're making wigits even now, they pile up in stacks, I run them as I slip a few choice words between the cracks. To write helps to protect the mind from repetitious tasks which threaten to enslave the soul (if anybody asks.) And, so it is my work-a-day's combined with words of wit, I wonder at their source sometimes, this guy who makes wigits. For, by the one I am defined which serves to pay the bills, while that which writes would chuck it all and take off for the hills. A balance of two distinct parts with plenty left to spare, and pretty soon before I know it's five o'clock somewhere. The clink of ice, a long cool sip and reflect on the day, I guess when all is said and done I'm fortunate you'd say. The wigit business still does good while most's gone oversea, as owner I can tell you this, I plead insanity! And that my voyeuristic friends concludes your "freebie" look, to get the complete expose' you'll have to buy the book! |

I would like to buy the unabridged version please. Widget 101 - I have the Cliff Notes now. As a voyeur, I really enjoyed this. A |

Now, how izzit I can read this and still not have a clue as to what yer talkin' 'bout? I was like, a wigit--is that like, a wee midget? Then I thought I'd better not tick off the midgets, but that led me to thinking of Willy Wonka, (politically incorrect or not, it did) and I thought a wigit sounds like a candy. So I googled it, and well...I came across a link to some wig company, and then this-- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Widget laughing It's five o'clock somewhere, but not here, so this is me on the natch, buddy! |

Karen, Lol, thanks. Actually I started with "Widget" but then rewrote "wigit" as it seemed to rhyme better. Susan derived the original meaning from economics class. As a manufacturer I didn't want to scare any customers away by being more specific about what I make. Thanks again. Doc |

Those catchy lines made me start laughing, but reading on about the widgets (wigets) made me laugh harder. I'll soon be 73 and it strikes me so funny when words I've heard all my life are so foreign to younger generations. I'm always tempted to give some off the wall definition to get their reactions. Ida, Thank you, glad to share. Doc sandgrain(Rae), Lol, an interesting observation, one I've made many times myself. I'll be turning 52 here shortly (which I guess to some degree would make me one of those of which you speak). At one point when I first came here, my writing was referred to as somewhat "archaic", which I took as a compliment. The nuances of our language continue to fascinate me. Thanks for the reply. Doc |

Doc, when I read the poem I wasn't too sure what a Wiget was, I'm still not real sure but that aside, I thoroughly enjoyed your poem, great rhyming and great rhythm, keep up the good work. Lindsay |
