Mr. Joe from Beth Eden Settlement House
is walking in the subway complex
under Philly City Hall.

He’s looking to catch a train
out to Beth Eden.

He notices Felix sitting in
the subway police substation.

“Good morning officer,
what has my young friend done?”

“We caught him down here
wandering around.
I think he’s a rag picker or something.
Do you know his address?”

Felix, he doesn’t say a thing.
He’s not talking to
no damned cops, or anyone.
He just sits there.

Mr. Joe gives the police officer
Felix’s address.

They take him home.
His old lady beats
the living crap out of him.

That night
Mr. Joe has Felix in boxing class
at Beth Eden.
He asks him about being arrested
in the subway station.

“Aww gee Mr. Joe,
that’s just the way it is you know.
Sometimes your luck runs out.”

During this very short exchange of words,
Felix has slipped the wrist watch
off Mr. Joe’s left arm.

Felix just has the best hands that way.

Because Felix likes Mr. Joe,
he gives him back his wrist watch.

He just had to prove
to Mr. Joe that he could do
something slick and worthwhile.

Bobby

So sad, that such slick movements must accompany a crime, but sadder yet, that it would become a positive self-esteem event.

I think he’s a rag picker or something.
Did everybody think like that?

For me, in a very many ways...
this was perhaps the most interesting
and effective 'write' of the Felix story so far!

MUCH applause!!

Midnitesun,

No crime was committed by Felix in this story.  He gave the watch back.  Felix is a rather sad child.  If you read the rest of the story, he turns out okay.  That happens a lot.

TomMark,

Yes, that’s what the police officer said.  I was there.  BTW, rag pickers are all right with me.

James,

You have made a wise fashion choice, not wearing the Rolex.

Secondhanddreampoet,

I’m very happy this one worked so well for you.

Roniece,

Thanks hon. for being such a sweet kid.

Felix loves you right back.  He's very affectionate.

He learned all those thieving tricks from his Dad.

Thanks Haun, I'm pleased you like the Felix stories.

Passing shadows,

Felix did learn.  Don't we all.

Bobby, are you going to tell us about Felix's probation and community service? I know I am struggling with all that right now and I'd be interested to hear where Felix does his community service LOL

I am doing mine at the homeless shelter and I might do a few hours with Habitat for Humanity where I can help build a house for someone.

Passing shadows,

It's great you're helping out at the homeless shelter.

Felix never pulled community service.  No one would have him.  He was only a kid anyway.

I have known a few kids like Felix, I lived in some rough areas growing up. I had three brother's who got into a lot of trouble. Some learn and some don't. That's the way life is and I guess there's reasons for it all.

Ida,

Yes, there is  a reason for most everything.

It's good you can relate.  That makes me happy.

Felix is an engaging character with many adventures.  He seems like a good kid faced with bad luck who will turn out okay in the end.
