The Dog Girl I am rooming with two other guys. They complain I am keeping them awake by playing the shortwave at all hours of the day and night and would I stop it? One of them says he is putting my television and radio together as one unit so I can not do this, anymore and to stop bothering them. They tune to a football game on the radio, and at every touchdown, they yell at the radio. I can't live in a crazy place like this. I step out into the hallway. I continually trip and fall through an endless spiral down many floors and flights of stairs, down ... down ... down... down ... like skiing ... like flying ... but I am not hurt. I tell a man I COULD live with a room mate if it were just the right room mate. He takes me to another room and room mate. My new room mate is a woman. She says hello and I am immediately captivated by her. The man says not everybody living here is nice. He says there is a room where they keep a notorious woman called the dog girl. He says the dog girl's room is always locked. But I am curious, so he knocks several times upon the dog girl's doggie door. I hear the rattling of heavy bolts and chains and unlocking of the reinforced door, and an elephant comes charging out, blowing her trunk and bellowing horribly |

That terrifying monstrosity, that monsterous, bellowing she-wolf-elephant girl. Be ware of locked and bolted doors you may not enter. Be careful what mysteries you ask to be revealed. You may not want to know what raw, primeval terror lies behind those hidden doors. You may not want to know what they conceal. Like Pandora before the mysterious box, like EVE before the Tree Of Life, like Cynthargis before her golden throne, like Bluebeard and all his decapitated wives, who just couldn't resist taking a peek, just a teeny tiny peek, to see just what hideous, alien magic one turn of a bloody key what uncontrollable, destructive forces could turn loose upon the world. (By the way, Sunshine knows all about Cynthargis. It's a fantastic story and you should read it! I didn't notice the connection till much later). |

Okay, I have been hooked on your poetry for some time - and this poem is an example of why. It's interesting .. and sometimes, I laugh (yep, I laughed). Missing you, my friend, Ali |
