hello my name is Roniece
some will know me here
some will not
some say I am a poet
though I’m not so sure at times
but I always give my best
and I’m never short of a reply
I live in a place down under
where there is sun and surf galore
they say it’s a land of plenty
of hope and fun and more
where the harbour has its beauty
and the people have their charm
and most everywhere you look
laughter and smiles abound

I'm happy I live where I do...

Be kind at heart....for everyone you meet has their own battle to fight.........

as a young boy, my dream was to live in australia and raise sheep...never fulfilled that dream...never made it to australia, though my wife and 4 children have been there and loved their experiences...and i still dream of things that never were!

Hello Roniece How do you do?
My name is John, but you can call me Blue
Your smiling face is such a delight
And I bet you taste just like vegemite
If I get down under one day
And came to visit you
Would you teach me how to play
With your didgeridoo...?

I believe, have always believed,
that anyone who puts their hand to poetry
and gives the great attempt
is, at heart, a poet.

Only society proclaims those who try.

But in our hearts, we know
we tried.

You, my friend,
are a poet.

Well hello you with the Roniece Dawson-Bruce from down under label. I’m Wesley James Beard, Jr.(((my dad was a damn yankee from upstate New York and he ran away when I was barley two and that's a good thing because I'd had to kick his big-un for sticking me with a monaker like that in coonass country)))from the swamp lands of Southern Louisiana and we too have lots of sun, and surf. . .  when the hurricanes are a brewing (or when we’ve drank too many glasses of the same). And I’m pretty sure I’m not a poet – something like that would ruin my coon-ass reputation down home.  They be whipping me with Nutria Tails and that’s not fun ... no way!  I try to spin a small yarn or two (that’s acceptable at any coonass gathering  especially during beer drinking and crawfish eating.  Any tail, tale,  is fair game at that time.  At the very worse ... we do have fun.

We did a good go at some of that surfing stuff during Katrina, though, even though we aren’t Blonde-haired and sun-toasted tan..  When that old hurricane, she  busted that levey, man there was a continuous 10’ wave.  We tried riding that thing in cement mixing troughs, pirogue’s (of course) metal garbage cans, even a few bird baths, and numerous other items, but finally had to ask ourselves...just what do we have webbed feet for if we aren’t going to use them?  So from then on it was bare feet and bottoms down on the curl and we rode that thing from Lake Ponchentrain, up the Bayou St. John almost to the Mississip’ -  What a run that was!

Any way, we’re a smiley bunch in this part of the country/world  and we’re gonna make you an honorary sister (just as soon’s the next hurricane comes so you can go bare bottomed and bare-footed up the Bayou St. John wid us on that hurricane’s curl.

Love ya, my Aussie friend with the coonass smile....hope to see ya some day....keep the words flowing...and the crawfish hot and spicy!

On, and I'm happy I LIVE - period...it's all uphill from there!!!! (heh, heh)

You show me your digarido and I show you my pirogue for two and what make it run ... paddleless!

Well some take offense at the term...but they really aren't "all  there" are are transplanted. Being a coonass is a term of endearment more than anything for/to the race, the culture of cajun people. It's a fun term and although I am not cajun I been one as far as I'm concerned for roughly 60 years and wouldn't trade it for the world.  Was even marred to a full bloodied one.

But, depending on who your are...some take offences at anything...and there's always that little ditty where you ask someone...
'do you know hat a coonass id?? They generally mumble something about Louisiana and people there but you stop them after a moment..."no, it's that little, round black spot just below a Racoon's tail"""...Smile my friend...it's all in fun!!!  Jimmy

Hi Roniece,

I like your style!!! I've been meaning to tell ya but sometimes I'm slow at getting around to say what's in my heart so don't think I don't read what you write. I think of you as an honest person who says exactly what they feel and I have great respect for you because of that. There are a few people around here who make me wonder because of the odd way they express themselves and the names they choose to write under so I want you to know I like to get to know people slowly and measure my response carefully.

You are a fine poet and I look forward to reading what you have to say!

                          Joe

PS. I sent Alby Mangels a poem once, well twice actually and while the first one drew a reply from him the second, well, I never heard from him again until I got a generated response that said he was changing his email address. Do you know him, he's from Australia too?
