Resonance Of War Sing me a song of a lad that is gone Tell me of his mother’s woe Croon his last words said on far battle field Spoken to only his foe Utter a glimpse into what things were like When bullets were falling around Covey just a fraction of feelings you felt The day he was sunk in the ground Hum out the trumpets cold sorrowful wail Sounding out taps for this lad Then tell me how I can go on when the war Took the only child I had I am nothing special...and my name will soon be forgotten, but I've loved another with all my heart and soul, and to me,this has always been enough.~N.S |

Tremendous resonance, dear Ruth! A tragedy that touches so many, it's almost unbearable. Your write is powerful and touches the heart. Love, Margherita |

HootieGal~ Such a stirring write~ It paused me in a moment of reflection and thankfulness~ *Huglets* ~*Marge*~ ~*The sound of a kiss is not as strong as that of a cannon, but it's echo endures much longer*~ |

Powerful theme, one suggestion with rhyming. Rhyming is a meticulous act which requires precise rhyme scheme and sometimes iambic pentameter to be successful, though most of contemporary poetry has strayed away from rhyme, the literary world now focus more on the technical talent of rhyming poems since it tends to bind and even suffocate the piece with its diction restraints. Try attempting this piece without the need for rhyme, perhaps you will find more added depth to it. good luck! -ocean |

This is so beautiful. I am in tears… If this incredible poem is your truth, I am so very sorry for your loss of your child… If it is not, then you have a truly compassionate and comprehending soul because you have written, so beautifully, what a mother lost seeks to know… Tammy<333 |

Dear friends, Thank you for the comments. As many of my poems, this is not based on my experiences but rather on the experiences of others. I have a friend who lost her son over in Iraq and this poem was based on that. I'm so honored to blessed with the ability to come across otherwise but don't wish to mislead anyone here. Thanks Ruth |
