Shannon sits at the traffic light, beaming On her way to graduation Ready to conquer the world So happy, she could cry She casually looks over at the car next to her Where Lindsay stares back at her Lindsay has just learned today that she has terminal cancer She stares at Shannon, unsmiling She looks at this jubilant girl donning her cap and gown who sits in the car to her right The light turns green A motorcycle speeds up between Shannon and Lindsay and out ahead of the rest of the cars, on the way to the freeway Chris floors his Harley He has headphones in his helmet, he is listening to Led Zeppelin, and he smiles For today, he has just proposed to the woman he loves And she said “yes.” Fifteen minutes from now, Chris is going to die. Sideswiped by a pickup truck, Driven by Dan, who was on his way To the hospital, To see his brand new son The police officer who arrives on the scene, Jim, is in the midst of a painful divorce From his wife, Jeanine, Who is sleeping with Bryan, A highly skilled architect who just lost his job And his brother Dave, in a boating accident Soon, he will lose Jeanine too, and his sanity, While poor Dan sits in a jail cell for blowing a point - o - nine, He shares the cell with Tyrone, who didn’t make parole again, And probably never will, because, twenty-two years ago, he murdered Rob, Who used to date Jeanine in high school, Before he went and married Lindsay. |

EagleScorpion, Not bad, keep plugging away. It has good word usage. What’s with “point-o-nine"? Bobby [This message has been edited by Robert E. Jordan (04-03-2008 11:06 AM).] |

Joseph...this is one of your best. It's good to see you posting again, and I grinned when I saw the new pic! Good job, son. I'd like to see more of this "observational poeming" from you! |

Rob, a "point-o-nine" is a reference to the lowest illegal blood alcohol level while driving in the state of Florida. Recent legislation has made it illegal to drive above a .08 percent blood alcohol content. When they test you, you have to blow on this special device that measures your breath. When Dan blew a "point - o - nine" he failed his drivers test and had to go to jail for manslaughter. Thank you all for your replies. Sorry it was so sad. I was thinking about making an "all-happy" one. |
