The Big C I took out the pictures of Christmas preceding just to see you - smiling and whole only a year has past and here you are a fragment of yourself wasted and waning an apparition gaunt and ghostly - chemo and radiation now a part of your everyday vocabulary and sometimes I can’t seem to find the words we spent last Christmas planning futures but never planned for this and I curse hospitals and doctors who hold life in their very hands as I watch yours slowly sift through mine I am nothing special...and my name will soon be forgotten, but I've loved another with all my heart and soul, and to me,this has always been enough.~N.S |

The Big C took my father down, and it left a hole in my soul. In whatever way I can, I will share your pain. Your poem is a bittersweet testimony to life's propensity for hardness. I wish you and yours well. Art |

I truly feel for you Ruth and agree with Art. Cancer took my daughter in 2000. She was only 34 and it does, indeed, leave a hole in your soul. I will be thinking of you and hoping for a miracle. Ida |

So sorry Ruth, I lost both of my parents to cancer. Watched my strapping Dad waste away from 230 lbs to 150. You'll be in my thoughts. Take care. Steve |

Thank you all for your kind words and offers of prayers. This was written in response to my mother-in-laws diagnosis of stage 4 ovarian cancer and the subsequent surgery and chemo she has undergone. Although she has only one chemo treatment to go now and is doing well ( at 70 pounds thinner than her normal weight ) she was told last week that reoccurance rate is greater than 70% in 3 years time and if the cancer reoccurs it is much harder to treat the second time around. We are living one day at a time here and being thankful that we have this time together at all. Ruth |

Taking it day by day is sometimes all we can do, m'friend. I know your pain, and my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Make her every day special as only you can, Ruth...it helps. |
