Two four year old girls, one with brown hair, one blonde Took such delight in picking poppies they found Colorful blossoms grew tall, warmed by the sun Annie and Alison on a mission of fun They didn’t know the flowers were tended with care They only saw flowers to put in their hair They only saw flowers to pick and take home They didn’t know the flowers were lovingly grown The two little girls ran innocently free That’s how it was for my friend, Annie, and me A voice would call out from a house that was near An old lady lived there; her voice rang out clear “Annie and Alison, don’t pick those poppies you see. I planted that garden - you girls just leave them be!” They looked at the lady and ran as fast as they could How she could own poppies that grew in the woods? More flowers grew, bathed in colors vibrant and bright The girls would return within the old woman’s sight She could see them run up to stay for awhile They never looked to see her face lit with a smile All they would hear, with flowers held in their hands, Was the voice calling out, at the door she would stand “Annie and Alison, don’t pick those poppies you see. I planted that garden - you girls just leave them be!” The years have gone by and the girls since moved away But poppies still whisper the words the woman would say “Annie and Alison, don’t pick those poppies you see. planted that garden - you girls just leave them be!” Alison |

Thank you, my friends. My sister says that I left out the best part, which is: "But you left out the part I truly love--When I asked you what Mrs. Soldberg said when you committed your acts of larceny, you told me,"She said nice little girls, you may pick my flowers." So she says I need to edit this .. we may see it again. Alison |
