I feel sorry for strawberries and regret the colors of my youth. When a product is of quality, the producers want to make money, they increase the quantity and the quality collapses. Thus strawberries were so good that producers increased the quantity making the fruits without taste. I feel sorry for strawberries and regret the colors of my youth, I don’t like them anymore. |

OhYann~ This month we celebrated here in Florida with the Annual Strawberry Festival held in Plant City, FL~ The strawberries were plump, juicy and so flavorful ... I wish you could have tasted them~ I am right now enjoying another bowl of those delicious strawberries ...~ We bought several flats of them, shared some with family and friends and I put up the rest to enjoy for quite some time~ YUM YUM !!! Hope you find a field of yield that will give you the scrumptiously flavorful taste once more~ *Huglets* ~*Marge*~ ~*The sound of a kiss is not as strong as that of a cannon, but it's echo endures much longer*~ |

I understand for the supermarkets fruit is tasteless at times. For strawberries I grow them myself in large planter on my porch. Yum! I found an orange, which I NEVER buy in a store, called Cushman Honeybells another YUM! I have a little grinder-mixer called a Magic Bullet and put slices of orange in that OH....wonderful fresh orange juice nothing like you buy in the store. The flavor a delight to your taste-buds. Good Jobber BonBon |

I sadly have to agree ... thank you for these interesting ponderings. They look nice and inviting in the supermarket, but they have almost no taste at all. If you do a test and taste a little bit of a strawberry with closed eyes, it will be extremely difficult to tell what you tasted. I remember the strawberries in my childhood garden ...unforgettable!!! Just came across this quote: "One must ask children and birds how cherries and strawberries taste. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe " But there are still places where the small little forest strawberries can be found (even though they are cultivated) and you can taste the difference. Near Rome there is such a place and we often go there for the sole purpose of enjoying a cup of true delicious strawberries. I am happy for dear Marge and Bonnie ... Love, Margherita |

Just want to share a few 'homegrown' varieties that we harvest here at our place~ We grow citrus trees, Satsumas, Tangerines, Grapefruit and several varieties of Oranges, including the Navel and the Honeybell !! We grow Persimmons in several varieties too~ In the back meadow there are wild blackberries ripe for the picking~ And some wonderfully crunchy Florida Sand Pears and Scuppernong Grapes~ Also grow some of the best vine ripened tomatoes you'd ever want to eat~ Just stepped out with the camera to share one of the Pink Grapefruit trees laden with the best gosh darned fruit this side of Heaven~ Come on down friends ... there is plenty to share~ *Huglets* ~*Marge*~ ~*The sound of a kiss is not as strong as that of a cannon, but it's echo endures much longer*~ |

Thank you again Marge for your beautiful comment, I learn a lot about the sunshine state and its people...I think however there are big producers in florida with tasteless fruits cause sometimes in france i ate oranges or grapefruits from florida.... However your comment is great and fabulous and full of colors... Kisses yann |

Hi it's BonBon again. Another fruit I found that was very good is an apple called Pacific Rose only certain times of the year it is available. You can look that up on the internet. The Honeybell orange is also best at certain times around January.I found the oranges on a shopping channel QVC.com. If you have a Cider Mill (apples) near you that is another option. There is another apple can't remember its name but it has a hint of a grape flavor.Different but good. See Ya BonBon |
