The Unofficial First Observer of
Trillium This Spring

"Look! they're over there . . .
and there . . .
and there's some more, over there"
She spoke to her companion
But she was announcing it
To the entire bus.

In some harsher alternate universe,
I flattened her exhilaration
By dryly observing
"They were there two weeks ago."

In this one though,
I quietly shared the celebration
As her announcement carried all the
Hope, joy and victory
That simple white flowers can muster.

What difference would it make anyway, who saw the lovely trillium first?
