I stood there high upon a craggy precipice
Overlooking the wide landscape beneath
The inverted bowl of blue, desert sky!

I was alone, except for the voice of the wind
Singing an aria against the outcroppings
Along the ridge where I come to meditate.

Somewhere down there, beyond the rocky meadows,
Lies the city where I live and die, daily,
Where I find solace in poems, and some solace

In quiet supplication. I don’t ask for much.
I am not greedy at the Throne of Grace. There is
Necessity, Food, raiment, shelter, and sleep---O elusive dreams!---

The Great, wide door to a universe in waiting!
Existentially, I have come; existentially, I am here
Existentially I must depart!

O mystic waves, bear me up on the highest crest!
O solar winds, make full my sails,
O my star among the myriads of stars, guide me!

This is my first posting and it is obvious I need some practice with formatting! I am glad to join you here, and I hope this poem sheds some light on my sense of place in this immense universe.

Welcome Art, & do not worry about the formatting. You will naturally settle in to it & grow with each post. I have seen it happen with so many others on here.... John

Hi Art, it was not very difficult to find you, already knowing your poem on american poetry, that's very good stuff and there is a lot of good poetry here, plenty to read...
