Sheryl’s Story Sheryl told the story of a child wronged Her voice was steady, message strong Clear blue eys gazed upon the crowd Secrets, once buried, now shared out loud Some eyes dropped down or looked away Some didn't want to hear what she had to say Discomfort written clearly on their face Yet, Sheryl displayed a survivor’s grace Her words reached out to hearts and minds Some wondered if they had missed the signs Many spilled teardrops of surprise Perhaps cries for help went unrecognized Sheryl spoke with self-taught dignity and grace Sadly, her childhood lost can never be replaced Candidly, she told of molestation once endured Her story now is told - will her story be heard --- Alison [This message has been edited by Alison (03-15-2008 12:29 AM).] |

timothysangel, Thank you so much. You sound like a kindred spirit. I changed this a lot - I just didn't like the version that you read. Thank you for reading and responding with so much compassion. Alison |

Thank you, James. I am writing this for a friend of mine - keep coming in and fine-tuning it. Sheryl is a real person who talked to a group today - I had the honor of listening to her - and I was proud. She and I share many things, sadly - this is one. Alison |

The first step is always the hardest. I applaud her courage for starting the recovery process. It will sometimes seem an impossible task but there will be setbacks & flash backs as she attempts to bury the ghosts. I am so pleased for her that you are the kind ear that she has to help her through the dark times. Give my regards to Sheryl & let her know that there will be light at the end of the tunnel, she must now follow the path to the end. She has the support, she just needs to nurture the belief. John |

Thank you, John. Sheryl's story, unfortunately, is the story of many of us. She is way beyond starting to talk about it -- she is publically speaking out -- as am I. Thank you, my friend, A |

Lindsay, Thank you. I think I struggled more with this poem than any I have written. I want it to be right - Not sure if it is there yet, but I had to set it aside. Thank you and I am glad that you are here. Alison |
