Felix is suffering through ninth grade. He’s out in the hall, beating another kid up. He’s got the kid down on the floor, and he’s pounding on him. A door opens up, and his English teacher, mean old Miss. Green pops out. She grabs Felix by the scruff of his scrawny neck, and very lightly pounds his head against the wall, just to attract his attention. “What are you doing this for? You’ve got a good head on your shoulders. Why are you wasting your life like this?” Felix thinks to himself: “What is she talking about? I’ve already flunked two grades? Then he remembers all those silly I. Q. tests he’s taken. He always answered all those dumb questions before anyone else. He gets to leave early. Maybe I ought to give this school thing a try. There might be money in it." Thanks Miss. Green. Bobby [This message has been edited by Robert E. Jordan (03-11-2008 06:15 PM).] |

Indeed a very positive outcome! And I do hope Miss Green was able to watch Felix while he made up for former wasting of time. And there is nothing more touching with regard to education than to express gratitude to a teacher. Enjoyed this, dear Bobby. Love, Margherita |

Margherita, I can honestly say, Miss Green saved my life. She seemed to care about bad kids. She also took an interest in a friend. My friend and I constantly skipped school together. You just couldn't keep us in class. We have both done well. This took place in 1953. I’m sure Miss Green is long dead, as she was about fifty then. My friend and I both hated her then. Bobby |

LadyTom, I think Miss Green knew everyone. It's said that she had eyes in the back of her head. What followed after that was academic success--a full academic scholarship to Penn, State Science Fair prizes, the works. Bobby |

Well, sounds like to me we need more Miss Greens in the world but I think Felix deserve a lot of credit. Not everyone is smart enough to take good advice. Ida |

Ida, Miss Green was mean, and tough. It was years later that I came to realize what a good and kind woman she was. As I say, she probably saved my life. Bobby |

Matronmedusa, Yes, ninth grade was tough, ninth grade, from what I understand is always tough. My greatest joy back then was sneaking out of school. Bobby |

Yea, same thing happened to me...teacher was shaking me and telling me she thought the devil had a hold of me...(At the moment, I tended to agree). |

RDB, Yes, Miss. Green was very helpful to Felix, and to his friend and fellow "escape from class artist". Perhaps she felt sorry for us. Bobby |

It is comforting to hear that teachers can have such a positive influence upon students. Way to go Felix! |
