Late in autumn near day's end, I walk alone on Kansas plain, An unknown path on which to wend, In gentle glow of Helios' wane. Fading fast, an azure sky, A soothing calm lays on the land, Venus yet to ope' her eye, As feel the touch of unknown hand. In cottonwood, a meadowlark, Sounds forth her mournful cry, Signaling out day's embark, Beneath deep Kansas sky. I walk alone, no trepidation, Knowing not, my destination. |
