Beneath The Magnolia Tree

On a rock, she sits, by the rolling sea,
beneath the blossoms of a magnolia tree.
Weeping for a love that is no more,
since her lover sailed to distant shore

Empty, she feels, for her heart did break,
--Alone and sad with her love ache.
Driftwood rolls in to the rocky shore,
as she mourns his loss to senseless war

Tears fall freely down her forlorn face.
--There is no cure for the empty space.
She stood and faced the vacant sea,
and plucked last petal from magnolia tree

Poignant imagery, having her plucking the last petal was the perfect ending.

Enjoyed this Arctic Wind even though it is a sad reminder that loved ones are being lost all the time to senseless war.

AW, you are really growing as a poet and I am enjoying the fruits of your talent. I believe that this is my favorite to date ~ and that is saying a lot for I have loved them all. I wish more young people like yourself, would express themselves through writing poetry.

Love to you, Dear Poet

I would love to see this poem in the form of a Pantoum. It would be singularly lovely...as it is now, but in the beginning, that is how I recognized it...

This is so pretty.

I have a Japanese Magnolia in my yard just like your photo. I'm thinking of digging it up and taking it with me when I move. Their flowers smell soooo good.
