Clashing for Attention Frost tinges leaves lightly ‘til green burnishes to orange Branches bend gently in supplication to coming cold storing sap, bark thickening And berried fruit is offered as if an incidental gift to those who drink the essence of fermented juice and will partake of the succulent meats beneath glowing skins The air sharpens like aged cheddar still wrapped in cheesecloth The sun shines with less intensity as if losing interest; maybe bored by array of once vibrant colors now dimming under rays, once attentive, now merely indifferent to the diffidence of those seeking warmth and light Golden eyes, fickle, caught by flirtatious invitation elsewhere Summer is but a memory as the splendor of fall clamors to the forefront; vibrant and clashing, reds and oranges scream for attention Soft whispers of rose and violets are lost in a blaze from the dramatic Gentle melodies of brooks and streams sing light harmony to the cadence of dancing leaves as they drift to the ground Creating a magic carpet to cover those who drift to somnolence; the wallflowers of winter wait for their turn to be noticed … Again --- Alison |

Alison, you, m'dear, are a poetess of the finest order! I simply adore this touching close to summer and the welcoming in of fall! The transition between seasons is subtle and seamless ~ and ever so poetically illustrated. ![]() Seasons greetings! lol ![]() Linda |
