Purple Loosestrife Riverdance My wandering feet brushed dangerously close to a profusion of poisonous vines, hardy tree-huggers of the first degree that trail the path between the river and me. Most know the risks of poison ivy, so steer clear of these three leaf lovelies. But nearby, along canals and river edges, and on saturated grounds that border highways and flyways, purple loosestrife threatens plant diversity. For even in its beauty, and its ability to overcome invasive cattail stands, it degrades wetland-habitats with blocks of monospecific showy purple blossoms that inevitably choke waterways, displace native flora. But before my thoughts drown in the deluge of foibles of species intervention, this rapturous river coyly murmurs, teases me into sitting by her banks in sweet harmony and reverie. Morning speaks softly now, as thoughts flow in river-synch. Rhythmic river motions move my feet, urge undulating muscles to match the river's flow. I dance beside her, absorbing her energy, rejuvenating body and soul as only nature can. Refreshed and renewed, I dance away knowing with certainty I must never cease to fight for pristine water's flow, never ignore Gaia's needs, for they are mine. this was very interesting, I felt like we were driving together and you were a tour guide...telling me all about life, and what to watch for around the next turn, to handle with care yet, enjoy, relaxed and ready for each new turn... |

ah, but you made me go looking! We have similar problems here, and with such a complex series of drainage canals, as you can imagine, it's a real problem trying to keep these very vital waterways clear, as they are part of our flood control system. (With us, though, it's purple hyacinth. Lovely to look at, though. I had them in a water garden once because I am basically lazy. But beetles to the rescue? http://www.greatlakesdirectory.org/wetlands/052304_great_lakes.htm The cella beetle, otherwise known as: "Galerucella" What a pretty name--downright poetical, even. Thanks for making me think, as you always do. |

THANK YOU, sister K! That is a very informative link. LOL, now...where is your Galerucella write?????? Yes, indeed, that is a poetic name for a beetle! |

I thought about that, Kace--but I don't know how to pronounce it. (I've been calling Sunshine, Karilea (four syllables) for years now--and then I found out the last a is "silent".) A little thing like that completely mucks up my meter. *laughing* But you can give it a go, and do a better job of it than I, I'm sure. Consider it yours. |

I'm sure I screw up some of the names here! ok, sis....perhaps, a clever beetle-muse will scribe something on the blue screen? |

This poet's deep empathy, compassion, and passion [particularly for Nature's infinitely grand majesty (and in simultaneity... dangerous fragility)] always shines through as a Thoreauvian beacon (in the self- indulgent/corporate wilderness of the "Runaway American Dream") to us all! I believe Gaia is quite proud of her fine friend and herald...this lady of the 'Rainbow lights', Ms. Midnitesun! as a natural philosopher/'Universalist' scientist, I am once again quite impressed by such a 'write'! serious, sustained applause!! |

What a beautiful tour you took us on. Very informative, too. I got a little too close to poison ivy one time. Either that, or the wind blew it my way. Anyway, it was miserable. |

It is rather amazing, how some of the most 'dangerous' elements of Nature can sometimes also be the most beautiful and/or fascinating! more applause for this fine Gaia 'write'! |
