5 AM, ah there's the hour, when the soul most often must decide; do I shed my bed of braces where my blood is laced against the icy winds of pain, or do I hide a little longer in a growing midden heap of anodynes where ownership of life may be denied? 5 AM, when the chiding voice of conscience wars with the sleepy child of consciousness for rights to claim my soul, each drawing random clutching patterns in the dust of my debris, then wiping grubby fingers of forgetfulness on tatters of my fading dreams, as if the vortex of eternity could be held and stilled by fear of recalled imagery or by promises of mythic absolution. 5 AM, when nightmares are becoming more than real, and I must choose to wake not just dream I am awake, choose to spit into the eyes of memory through weathered shades of karmic wistfulness, or dive into the dour deep, the pool of madness that gathers when I sleep; either way, to face the winds that build like hurricanes to shake the dust and cobwebs from rafters in a shuttered warehouse of awareness at 5 AM. ©2007 by icebox . |

"either way, to face the winds that build like hurricanes to shake the dust and cobwebs from rafters in a shuttered warehouse of awareness at 5 AM." Exactly. Tremendously powerful poem, Mr. C. *hugs*.....jo |

I'm smiling here, as I read a magician's log that captured time and made it stand still. No matter the hour, you are always an intriguing and enlightening read. I hope you are well, sweet friend. |

Good Morning, Dear Box of Ice. It's 5 AM!!! 5 AM, when the chiding voice of conscience wars with the sleepy child of consciousness for rights to claim my soul, 5 AM, when nightmares are becoming more than real, and I must choose to wake not just dream I am awake, ~ Wakie! Wakie! ~ Nah, don't bother. I'm just a figment of your dream state. EA |

A profound thanks to "Warrior Bristo" for bringing this grand-fine work back near the top of the "P.I.P.-land" queue! [unfortunately, I apparently missed it completely somehow when it was first posted (shame on me!!)] most serious, long-sustained applause for this 'write'!! |

Pain, anguish, loss and despair erupting into a exquisite, Icebox, poetic work. I wish you the choice of freedom and happiness and contentment - all beyond your belief and comprehension. - Owl |
