Truths or Consequences Bright windowless roads Guide troublesome souls Blinded by self pity Around winding hills As goals and future hopes Suddenly descend downward like a roller coaster Passing exit after exit As destination marker reads--- “Truth or Consequence, 5 miles” Shadows shade thoughts While mirages change landscapes Happiness and peace splash the skies for a moment Until the road ascends upward Passing past lovers and sins Leveling out gradually Eye to eye with the setting sun “Truth or Consequence, 2 miles” Redemption stretches lonely Along the deserts of memories Lines of the highway vanishing Blackness against the coming darkness “Truth or Consequence, 1 mile” Headlights turned on Rain storms the horizon Lightening fury escapes the skies unchained Drenching desolate flowers With the knowledge no one seeks City limits approaching Truths Consequences Nearing City limits Solitude Emptiness Tears will no longer feed forgiveness No stopping now! Headlights turned off Continuation along the path Next marker reads--- “Salvation, endless miles” Rains cease The sun rises Consequences become truth And truths will one day cease to have consequences. Oh, I liked the ride...you cleverly wove the horizon with the point of reckoning. Wonderful read. |
