Spooled spider webs dangle, (but cling tenaciously) to disturbed vines trailing the fence; broken tendrils a tell-tale sign a sleek cat walked the narrow ledge 'neath last night's full moon. I lean tentatively against the porch, notice paw prints on the top rail etched in the morning's dew kiss. An assassin beetle boldly marches as if he were guarding sacred grounds, while underneath the ledge, two determined wasps busy themselves preparing a nest (like some hidden agenda) from which to strike unsuspecting warm blooded beings. I marvel at their audacity, for directly above the wasp nest sits the predatory cat's food and water bowls. No mice live around here, and I smile, wondering out loud how long this solo assassin beetle and the wasp team will survive. Out here in the woods, Darwinian justice prevails. |

I loved everything about this poem. It was eloquent. I'm not sure what Darwinian justice is but I'm sure I'll find out some day. Garfield |

OH, I thank you both for reading and commenting on this, a moment's reverie from my vacation in Washington to visit with my daughter. |
