We Heard That Someone Had Murdered Planet Earth

We heard that someone had murdered Planet Earth
Last night when we were lying in our beds.
Someone drained all the seas, felled all the trees
And sent the sky crashing down on our heads.

It only took a moment,
For someone to forget everything we'd ever learnt
Had every piece of paper burnt
Every quote
Every note
Every word
Was like a bird
Released
Every love & life & inbetween
Was suddenly deceased.

Strange then,
That no-one really realised
The deed that had been done
'Till troubled by the smell
They broke in & found the gun
And a bloody mess
That at a guess
Used to be someone's head.

You see,
Whilst we'd heard that someone had murdered Planet Earth
Only one person
Was dead.

Reminds me so much of Kristallnacht, 1938. I was only two then, but I felt it.

I enjoyed this one. I liked the bit about the sky falling on our heads. I think I'd notice that, but you know, what with the email and the ipod and the TV and the cell phone in my ear, I might have missed it.
