Grandson His face is spread with laughter As if laughter doesn’t matter He is purity’s child What does he know of life? He, who never walked in dusty streets And never saw the rawness of death And the complacency of injustice Shall I attempt to teach these things? His reality is far removed from the realworld He thinks I am so much wiser He relies on that wisdom He respects my demeanor He thirsts for my words Yet it is I who thirst for his I am not living my life to my hearts capacity As he is living his How shall I ask him to teach me how to laugh Without even knowing that happiness matters? Something tells me that I better get down there and teach you that laughter is a state of mind, resultant from bringing out your own inner child. ![]() ![]() |

I agree with Sharon (once again)just working with those darling, naive children brings the laughter and inner child out in me...for one thing they accept you even if you make a mistake and can share in the laughter when uou admit it afterwards. M |

Dear Liz I remember once about a year ago, putting my grandchildren into their carseats....which required some coordination on my part. Well, I got stuck...LOL. They, after first looking worried, brought the funnybone right out of me....and I started to laugh...they caught the laugh and I think we laughed for a good ten minutes while I was wedged between the front and back seat. When I am gone, I hope this is one of the things that they remember about me. Your poem is gracious and wise....you are always so lovely! ![]() |

Maureen's comment brought me back as that is the most wonderful thing about kids. They laugh with you not at you! ![]() ![]() I was telling Serenity only last night that I have boxes here, one is a "Love Box" and the other a "Laugh Box" and each time the girls visit, they can stick their hands in there and pick one piece of paper that tells them a reason why I love them, or a reason why they make me laugh. Martie, I am hoping they remember me for that. Well, that, and getting my tongue stuck on a frosty pole showing them never to do it. ![]() |
