It’s easy so they say
just knead a lump of dough,
place it in a set abode
fired up internally
and it will rise and rise
to satisfy desire.

And I knead and heat until done
but no one lives on bread alone
so I look around in vain
for the new and tasty bits
to savour on my tongue.

Nothing, nothing good,
to adorn the staff of life
here where the old are old
and people do not play.

So then of hunger it remains
until another shopping free
unearths the good and worthwhile
from the millions way out there
but no one shops around
when the once found and known
has dropped right off the shelves.

Is it hunger or a gnawing rat,
a lion on the prowl,
or a woman simply needing
and needing, needing, you?

"And I kneed and heat until done

Well, Helen, I guess at least we have some bread.  Love the analogy.  And yes, it would be nice to have more than bread.  But if you keep on kneading that dough, I think it will turn into something very light and lovely!  Happy New Year to you, dear friend, and I hope 2008 brings you a feast!   ....jo

Thank you TomM.  Happy New Year to you too and thanks for the read.  Much appreciated.

Jo - Happy New Year to you too.  I am regarding 8 as a lucky number.  May you too have a feast on whatever takes your fancy.

Love and hugs

A great poem, dear Helen! And I am sure that 2008 will bring something spicy to be savored with the bread.
May everybody's hunger for love be satiated throughout the world ...
And may your wishes fulfill in the way you desire, dear beautiful Helen!
Happy New Year. 8 ... the infinite ... I love it too.

Love and hugs.

Thank you Margherita, Maureen, and Chanson.  I can't believe we are already into 2008.  Here's wishing good things for us all and perhaps most importantly the wisdom to recognize the good things.
