To Friends

Another year to be transcribed
Into the book of life
Another chapter creased into
The musty folds of strife

Another deep and mystic tale
That won’t be fully told
Of intimate and sacred love
Inscribed in ink of gold

Another memory pressed between
A page of passion dust
And folios of friendship scrolled
In deep respect and trust

It is the hour that measures time
A moment set apart
To toast a friendship that abides
In corners of my heart

It’s time to lift the goblet up
And let expression rise
From deepest wells of sentiment
To shallow, teary eyes

My heart is filled abundantly
Up to the swollen brim
And wait’s the gentle touch of lips
To gather round its rim

Then take this cup o’ kindness
For the sake of auld land syne
And sip a sip of friendship
From this loving heart of mine
