Listening to every heart

Dear Santa,

One day not too long ago, I sat down and wrote
"Dear Santa," on a piece of paper, a special note;
now, not just any letter, but a very caring one,
because I'm not of childhood age, I'm far past 21!

"Dear Santa, please, allow me to explain…"
I wrote before I could think back to when
I last wrote to Santa, so very, very long ago,
when asking for presents was indeed the vogue.

"I am not here asking of anything for me,
but I'd like some very special gifts, you see,
something for Peter, and something for Paul,
then something for the best Man of them all.

"For I understand that people are again seeking
the words that long ago you were speaking
when your love came in another One's soul
when gifts were frankincense, myrrh and gold.

"For during this season, when want becomes need,
some people really have put away their greed,
and they are the ones, the Peters and Pauls,
that I would have you know, who really do it all.

"So Santa, help me put Christ back in Christmas,
and instead of stuff in my stocking, let there be fuss
in homes of the needy, for I know for myself,
the poor give plenty, for they give of themselves."

And Lord, if you're reading my note to Mr. Claus,
then grant me this prayer, and let all take pause,
to see what they have, and to allow them to share,
for in this way, they'll be richer; because they truly cared.

Kariliea, I believe that he would have tucked your self-less and philanthropic correspondence away in his keepsake box of special letters to Santa.

Merry CHRISTmas!

I've written two letters to Santa, in my entire life, or two that I remember anyway....

In the first, I asked for a rocket; I got it, and it wasn't nearly as much fun as I thought it would be. I kept it for years, wore that thing out with trials, and it never did get to be fun.

In the second, a few years later and maybe about the same time that I finally gave up on that rocket, I asked for peace in my soul.

Santa was the wrong one to ask for that, I guess. Still, from time to time a wisp of it does appear, sometimes even at Christmas time...and unlike my rocket, even a wisp is far better than I thought it could be.

I have one right now, after reading this poem.

Karilea - As meaningful a write as it was then it still is today but I am sure that time is moving us all to where we have to be, i.e. "richer".

"they'll be richer; because they truly cared."

It seems, however, that we can't all be there at the same time and perhaps never will be because ... hey! I'm a banker, you're a lawyer and so it is that we learn different things in the same time frame.

That said, Merry Christmas!
