The American Way.... In reality it's a Tragedy, a bottom-line pencil-neck game of total shame when the estate of a 92 year old citizen who paid taxes and insurance premiums religiously, faithfully, daily, weekly, monthly, annually is tied up in financial and legal knots because this so-called government of the people can now take greedy custody of assets remaining that were paid for in blood and with great sacrifice for life-sustaining Medicare benefits. BEWARE!!! The ax has fallen for one and all when Government grave robbers prevail. Now bend over and say "Thank you" to your elected officials. |

Oh, dear Kacy, I want to shout with you the injustice of such outrageous behaviour by the government! It's a scandal. Thank you for bringing this truth into the light. Love, Margherita |

Those of us who have wasted their lives in 'social work' and 'community service' positions can assure you that the socio-political and (alleged) 'educational' systems are badly (hopelessly?!) 'broken.' The 'powers that be' in this corporate 'mediocracy' (and their government stooges) would be quite happy if all the 'disenfranchised' (old, sick, unemployed, poor, whatever)...would just "die and decrease the surplus population!"...and most everyone else would simply become the 'working poor' slave labor in their electronic/informational; retail and 'service' industry sweatshops. There is simply no serious 'leadership' (let alone empathy/compassion) left 'mid the "Runaway American Dream!" It's all about making only 'bottom-line-friendly' decisions...where human beings (whether they be patients, students, customers, employees, whatever) are of FAR less 'importance' in the 'business equation' than desk chairs and coat racks; etc. |

Those officials should be the ones to "bend over" BACKWARDS and be figuratively shown a thing or two (via the voting process ![]() ![]() Linda |

Kacy. You say what needs to be said so well. I have worked all my life for what little I have and want to leave it to my children but fear that something like this might happen. I guess me all need to pray that we just suddenly drop dead to keep the vultures from circling while we die. Ida |

Nice writing...most of the details can be taken care of by consulting an Attorney that does wills, trust and estate planning so that things will be sorted out before death, this will cost some bucks ...but will ensure that less will go to the government and more to beneficiarys...James |

This one really hit me hard, and brought angry tears into my eyes. I use to have a student who lived in Boulder. She had CP, was dear-blind and used a wheelchair. She had a sunny personality, but her care takers treated her with callous indifference. I fueled and fomented trying to get better treatment, and I shed many many tears as I began to realize I could not. Eventually I just burned out, as I discovered I just couldn't do the things she wanted me to. It is to painful to even write about. Kacy, do have the use of this computer about this time of day? I saw one yesterday. So I will check here every morning to see what you may have written here. hgs |

Thanks to each of you! James, the lady refused to discuss it while alive. But the government under Bush's reign saw fit to change the Medicare/estate reimbursement rules just a couple of years ago. Beware...the rules have changed, no matter how your wills may read. |

Midnitesun, Estate taxes are always a pain. It sometimes helps to remember the U. S. has the lowest taxes in the so called Industrialized World. What’s really needed here is Socialized Medicine. Bobby |
