Rumor Has It

Rumor has it that I died;
being big-hearted in my youth
got me broken-hearted in my prime-
some rumors have some certain truth.

Rumor has it they put me away
in a padded room in a straight jacket
and they took my heart and boxed it so
I wouldn't try to attack it.

Rumor has it that I froze up
when finally faced with breathing
without you behind to catch me
without strong enough sheathing.

Rumor has it that I died
and my poetry, confetti on New Year's Eve
my love, torn pieces; drifting leeward
some rumors are good to believe~

rumor has it you don't look up,
you don't look down, or weave,
straight and narrow, a bit naive,

rumor has it (and I know)
you won't stop to grieve.
