Lumpy Oatmeal makes me Crazy!

0 posted 2007-12-05 02:18 PM

I am from mountains tall seeking the clouds
from foggy beaches decorated in cast-aside kelp
I am from  alder patches perfumed by misty rain
and wild raspberry bushes, nettles, and Devil’s Club
I am from porcupines in trees
and moose eating gardens.

I am from unfinished houses and unfinished dreams
littering winter conversations  with friends
I am from run free and don’t worry
what others think, consider what you think
I am from old jeans, tennis shoes worn and loved
and dogs in my bed hogging my electric blanket
on cold winter nights.

I am from tea parties in wild fields under the hot sun
cold spring water and pilfered gingersnaps
I am from hauling wood and baked potatoes in a hot fire
sparks shooting to the stars in a black night
I am from a bi-polar father and a mother in denial
and times hiding under the covers.

I am from a past that laces my today and spices my future
Fingers caked with dough as I knead bread
And think of where I am from.

I adore each and every line of this poem, but I must agree with EA...this line is just absolute perfection:

"I am from a past that laces my today and spices my future"

Thanks so much for sharing.

wow, this made surface some of my own vivid memories and I see we have also the mountains in common.... oh those mountains!

Simply wonderful, dear Alison, to read more than once for its intensity! I will keep it.

Love and hugs.

I loved your poem and adored these lines. I can see the sparks and smell the wood burning as I write. Great poem.

I am from there too Az. Spring water does make the best 'tea'. Thanks for sharing you.

Excellent!  It takes all those 'froms' to make a 'here' this excellent.

Thank you.

Each of you has made me smile - and I have enjoyed reading your poems too.

This has been the most beautiful 'challenge'.  Thank you for taking the time to read my poem and write your thoughts about it.

"I am from run free and don't worry what other's think" - oh! Me too!

"unfinished dreams
littering winter conversations"  - beautiful!

"dogs in my bed hogging my electric blanket
on cold winter nights."

I love this - it's just like my cats now!

We share a heavenly mountain heritage.

Me too! and guess which trait I picked up? I loved every line but that jumped out and bit me.

I came back to read this again. You have such
a way of putting words together. I saw everyone
of your memories and loved them all.

Thank you again for such gracious words.

Thank you,
