I was formed from Texas mud red clay striped to cobalt blue mixed with Raceland's swampy soup where life thrives only within shells. I was conceived by an impulse a night of "sorry" make-up lust both of them were in the cups "sssssshhhhhhhhh" Don't wake the tribe. From snarls to growls to giggled blush a bid, attempt, to repair trust threats of "I have had enough" morphed to murmered pleas of "more". News of my conception thus received with resignation of a pardon in revoke. The struggle to survive ensued. Betrayal lined my mother's womb. There was no wonder left in her. I am a child of Texas dirt muddying the floor, she swore that I was the last of dots of ellipses she had wrought.... each one she'd thought a period. Timing always was my sin. I broke the pattern of the sets. I come from groans of "not again" born with a caul of love's regret. I am from a moment, wild-- proverbial motherless child regarded as a death I am the dark rebellion of breath apparent in the frigid gasp remorseless, loud, and unabashed laughter at the funeral beside the open casket of the viewing of the corpse of dreams. |

~ and from out of the richness of Texas soil, was borne the poetess who came to be known as pip's Serene One. ![]() Darlin', and you still Blaze trails where'er you go! ~ and that's a goood thang! Now I know where the drama in your ink comes from. winky wink btw, I just noticed the ring in your pip photo. I don't know if it is on your thumb with your right hand crossed over, or not. I wear an Atlantean healing ring on my right thumb and it appears to me as though you are wearing one, as well. That would be rather curious if that be the case. ![]() ![]() Linda |

K, I admire you and your writing. And besides, if you came out of Texas, it can't be THAT bad of a state (considering that's where I'm going next week... grin). Is it weird that I constantly want to hug you and tell you how worthwhile you are and how amazing you are and how glad I am to know you, even if it's only over this lovely interweb? |

sometimes the worse situation begots the best outcome... you are a most wonderful gift, regardless of the circumstance. I for one am a better person having known you. but how you wrote this goes beyond depth and feeling...raw and unafraid to share this part of you...that is what makes me love you so very, very much... I envy your courage. ![]() "too bad ignorance isn't painful" |

extremely powerful, personal, very real, emotive 'write!' ...amazing response to the 'poetic challenge!' [not surprising to see something of this magnitude of quality from this fine author!] an amplified spectrum of that most serious and sustained applause!! |

Thank you all for reading, and yes, it's true, I was an unplanned pregnancy. And okay, so it's also true my mom had a lot of depression regarding my conception. (She still feels guilty about that.) But folks, we have "hugged it out". ![]() We like each other AND we love each other. And I completely understand her too. If somebody told me right now that I had to have ANOTHER baby??? ![]() But all's well that ends well, I say. Someday I'll have to write about how my mother became my father and my father became my mother, so you can full understand how I turned out so mixed up! ![]() Thanks again for the love! smoochies |

smiling--and laughing with Kacy--yanno? I like to think that before my arrival, my four brothers and sisters were like fingers on a hand. I am the thumb. Now I ask you, where would mankind be without the opposable thumb, eh? That's right. *laughing* I civilized my family. ![]() Love you all! And I'm gonna have to get my baby picture scanned--I swear I was born laughing! (Good thing, eh?) And Mom--I swear--I was not laughing at you. ![]() ![]() |

I love this! When I read this, it was goosebump time: "Timing always was my sin. I broke the pattern of the sets. I come from groans of "not again" born with a caul of love's regret." Poignantly beautiful. By the way, you were CUTE! |

Karen... Loved the rawness of this poem. Proud of the roads you have traveled and where you come from. That Raceland soup must have made you the way you are LOL. Love the picture, looks like a girl I use to push on the merry go round till she got sick. LOL...Paul ~~To share my poems with you is to share my heart with you~~ |

I'm too ashamed to admit this but I read and reread this until I could think of something smart to say. And well I don't. Other than you always amaze me with that thing you do so well.. You know that thing with your words. I'm not a good responder type person to this poetry stuff. But it's going to be a new year so I'll work harder at this. ![]() If at first you don't succeed destroy all the evidence that you tried. |

Karen, Your writing just astounds me with the courage and grit it takes to write it "like it is...or was." None of my kids were planned, and for the longest time, my son thought that made him a mistake, no matter what I said to him. It took years for him to come to know how bereft I would be without him. he's a cryptic man now who flaunts a dry sense of humor to cover the chinks in his armor. Truth be known, he's a tremendous gift in my life. Your poem, with its terrific press of words and heart, made me remember some tough days... ~ Karen |

Karen, my admiration of you (first) and your poetry (a very close second) grows with every interaction. Your courage and your honesty are two of your top 1104 qualities! I am sorry for the sadness, but so glad (and envious) that you hugged it all out. One of your top 1104+ fans - Owl |

You guys are always so kind. And KlassyLassy? You live up to your name. I'm not sure if I felt like a "mistake" but I think that a lot of kids who grow up in a poor family share a sense of guilt of being a burden. But I'll save that stuff for Dr. Phil. ![]() I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate you. You guys consistently stun me to silennce with the generosity of your replies. ![]() |

Gal, you really know how to evoke emotion! I had tears rolling as I read that. Then I read all the comments of the multitudes who also just love you to pieces and I'm smiling ear to ear. The piece is amazing, as are you. Rae |

Serenity, I too have read and reread this and only stayed away from it because as you know I would go on and on with my stories..LOL. I could say more than you might care to read. But you were born and you are here. For that I am so pleased. Thank your mother for me. It could have easily gone another way but it didn't. Now we are all blessed with having you to read and learn from. respectfuly. "late" |

mj? how aptly your name, "latearrival" applies to me! Please share your stories--if you hadn't shared that one in particular, I would have stopped writing completely if I thought myself able to do so. You are a dear friend, and I thank you. (I'll be checking my e mail. ![]() Rae? You are also so near and dear to my heart. Thank you so much, for holding me up when my knees were buckling. Have a joyous holiday, and please trust that you have never left my heart or thoughts. I should have known, we know the tree by its fruit...thank you so much, for not giving up on me, even at my most thoughtless. ![]() |
