I am of the pilgrims of Jamestown,
No "Ellis island" here.
And I am of the native people
who walked the trail of tears.
And before this country came to be,
Before the people from the sea,
I am of those green isles
of England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
The blood that feeds my Celtic soul,
That genetic memory, yet prevails.
For I am a poet and a dreamer
with a mystic turn of mind,
born to the sacred, magick realm
My people left behind.
And as the wheel of the year turns,
counting down my days,
I grow ever closer to the ancient ways.

A challenge well met

Poet, said my Muse to me, look in thy heart and write.

Great job! We seem to have come from the same stock.

I think this happens to a lot of us,
in just this way, Ida. Well done, and
thank you ever so much for joining in
on this challenge!

~ That ye be!

I just had a curious thought! You are part native red and part Celtic green! You must be a living Christmas tree!

Love the 'who' that you are and where and what you came from!

Ida, you met this challenge so poetically.

Very well done!

I like it all but this especially:

"I grow ever closer to the ancient ways."

Thank you all for your lovely comments. I truly enjoyed "The Challenge" and the comments from some of the site's premier poets.

Wow! You could be talking about me!  I love this---and except for the fact that my ancestors came over just right before the Revolutionary War, not with the Pilgrims, this is me.

Thank you Margherita and pilgrimage. I think this challenge was a lot of fun and I love so many of the poems it produced. I learned so much about my fellow poets from this.

I can truly relate to this fine response to the 'poetic challenge'...especially:

"The blood that feeds my Celtic soul,
That genetic memory, yet prevails.
For I am a poet and a dreamer
with a mystic turn of mind,
born to the sacred, magick realm
My people left behind.
And as the wheel of the year turns,
counting down my days,
I grow ever closer to the ancient ways(!)"

...as do I !

serious applause for this 'penning!'

Hello Ida...it's nice to meet you.  I also come from the far back of the Mayflower and

those green isles
of England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

it can be argued that the people of jamestown were abducted and ERASED by the very people who ended up walking the trail of tears... at least one or two of them, i speculate..

this was well done.. challenge or not

That is so true. One of my fathers relatives was a war hero in the fight against the Creeks. My mother was half Creek.
Strange world I guess.

What a beautiful challenge response!
The replies are also quite interesting.
My ancestors were from Holland, Germany, England, Scotland, Ireland. While no one genetic branch was dominant, I always felt my Celtic background gifted me with my need to write.
