Lesson of the Day

I am from early morning glories and
sunlight streams that play peek-a-boo through
smoky puffs of cotton.

I am from Mama's kitchen,
cast-iron crackles, and
gurgles of fresh grind
percolating daybreak aromas
to wake my daddy.

I am from Sunday morning stained glass
in brilliant blue hues and
statues
of mother and child.
I am from organ pipes bellowing,
beseeching me to still myself
and listen to His word.

I am from hoola hoops and
sprinkler jumps,
barefoot bee stings,
and backyard swings.
"Look Mama, my toes scrape the sky."

I am from simplicity wrapped
in downy dreams.
Once known, now often forgotten
in the shuffle of grown-up work-a-days,
but visited again in a moment called
silence.

Patricia! I truly enjoyed this and thank you for letting me help you make it a challenge. So that your readers will have some background, all they need do is visit here:

/pip/Forum7/HTML/000743.html

and now they, too, will have an opportunity to interact with your students by issuing their own Lessons to be shared!

However, it's going to take me a bit to be as good as the teacher.

How about a shiny apple???

Dear Patricia, I enjoyed your "Lesson of the Day" greatly! And let me say how happy I am to see you came back, I missed you and your wonderful poetry.

I will try to meet this challenge, but it won't be "immediate", not having much time. Thank you dear Karilea too!

Love and hugs.

Patricia ~ and I like who you are!

I read Sunshine's response and then I headed over to Poetry Challenge ~ and this is a terrific one! I might try my hand at it. I hope others do, because I would love to get to know them better, as well!

You deserve a big, gold star for this "Lesson of the Day"!

I love this so much. It could 'fit' right in down here in Georgia.

Thanks for the challenge.

Well done, indeed.
Yet, could one expect less from a southern belle?

There's a lot here I identify with, the hoola hoops and the sprinkler jumps and the warmth of your childhood.  Nicely done.

"Look Mama, my toes scrape the sky."

Oh, Patricia, how this rings a bell! I used to swing as high as I could, to touch the clouds!
And since one of my sisters is named Patricia,
just reading your name rings childhood memory bells.

And look at what you hath wrought!

I see now what all the fuss is about.

Sweet as taffy, and wrapped in gingham.

Way to go, Patricia!
