Opossums get such a bad rap,
and why?
just because they are ugly.
Though harmless and rather shy,
still people want to kill them.
I really don't know why.
You don't kill your uncle Waldo
because he is ugly.
Or do away with cousin Grace
because she has a homely face,
and they're not nearly as useful
as the opossum.
For though he is not held in high regard.
The opossum performs a service.
He dines on the bugs from your yard.

Ida~
I agree~

They are rather homely ... but they are good workers~

Dear Ida,
I always enjoy a poem in defense of animals, this is very well done. I don't think Opossums are ugly, they have an extraterrestrial look about them ….
May they be respected for their usefulness.
Love,
Margherita

by golly this is difernt.
You’ve just compared immediate family members unfavorably to the opossum.
Sad how true that can be....haha

I love this write. The little baby 'possum' that was in my tree one night last summer, sure was a cute little fellow.

Thanks for your comments and Tina, my cats brought me a baby opossum (in good shape) but not knowing much about opossums,I didn't know what to do with it so I fed it with a dropper for a couple of days until I found a lady who takes care of injured and abandoned opossums until they are old enough and well enough to release, I was surprised to find out that there are a whole network of "Opossum people" out there.
