This is an edited repost inspired by current events and Aziza's work "His Mother's Son - A Soldier." ~*~ Forgive me if I don’t dwell on global warming or the displacement of hundreds of people in Afghanistan. My mind is filled with prayer and hope … even fear … tho’ I try to ignore that feeling. I pray for all our boys and girls over there and I fear for their safety. But most of all I pray for the boy whom I watched take his first steps. The boy whom I taught to play football And baseball. The boy that was on the dean’s list, a member of the FCA, a respectful, honorable, brave, and loving boy. Now a Captain, a leader of men. He leads by being the example of duty, honor, respect, and he will lead his soldiers, and His children, back home, safely. ~*~ As a Post Script, my son brought back all 200+ souls in his company alive from their combat tour. A feat so far unmatced in recent U.S. Army MP Corps history! He is now a Major teaching and commanding at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, assigned to the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO. Poet, said my Muse to me, look in thy heart and write. |

I am proud of him too - and I am glad that he is teaching now. And I am thankful for all the families that had their loved one come home to them because of your son. My heart is full of caring and love for those who serve so honorably. I have tears for them when they need them and my arms can never hug enough. Alison/aziza |

What a fine young man, you have for a son. I would wager that the acorn did not fall far from his father, the oak. ![]() Quite an impressive feat! ~ A captain bringing all 200 of his troops safely back home! Your poem really hit home, with me. You must also be proud of his present day accomplishments as a: ~ "Major teaching and commanding at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, assigned to the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO." Sending a big hug to both you and your son! ![]() ![]() EA |

Congratulations on your son's accomplishment. We should pray for our soldiers wherever they serve, for they protect us and our right to pray. Nan (Pilgrim variety) |

well it's been a long time since I read anything of yours, and I really see reflections of the kind of heart that I once had the kind that only heals if it hurts first, for some; outside influences like wars in the middle east are the kinds of things that cut deep, you are lucky to have him home.... ~~~kingsangel~~~ |

You know I don't think I could stand having a son or daughter leave to go to war, I really don't. I can't imagine how full a parent's heart gets with love and also fear, and I am just thrilled he is safe, and surely thank him and those like him from the bottom of this mother's heart. Beautiful heartfelt poem - just beautiful. |

I loved your poem and the humanity of it. "my son brought back all 200+ souls in his company alive from their combat tour" should be blazoned across the headlines of international newspapers and TV screens instead of the sadness and badness that is there instead. This proves that good things happen. We just don't see it or make it enough about it. - Owl |

I am proud, too, of your son and heartfelt appreciation for his leadership and gifts. His record is indeed impressive, but I feel his heart and spirit coming through your words. I wish you all the presence of peace and harmony this Christmas and in days to come. ~ Karen |
