Melting lines between belief
and the hard plate of reality
can be a craft that takes precision.

Do I believe in god?

Maybe,
but I think not the god you mean.
No,
I have simply seen too much of life
and death
to think there is a god
who cares to own the best seat in the house,
especially this house
this greasy ball of grit and carbon life
circling a minor system
in a galaxy that wanders aimlessly
on cosmic winds of mediocrity
across the backwaters of creation.
No,
it is the learning that occurs in time,
gathered threads of chance that melt and bind
the images in tapestries of knowing;
it is then the knowing that can not be unwoven,
the knowing that in time leads to understanding,
the depths of understanding that need no flux of faith
or of belief.

If in this life you need a god
to balance thoughts of fire demons,
horned
satanically to dance
a'prance on cloven feet,
counterpoint
for an evil elf of stark temptation,
to keep your world neat,
your soul tucked safe inside your sleep,
by all means
keep your dreams,
but try to keep them to yourself.

I just don't need people shouting out their faith at me.
It is not a kingdom of god
but its theater
that is most impressive in its mystery.

I couldn't agree more...

If I were to start shouting my beliefs there would be a riot to get me to stop...but it's A-ok for others to shout theirs..

*shrug* I've learned to push the next channel and keep my mouth shut..

You always say it so well.

This write means a lot to me.  I especially love:
"it is the learning that occurs in time,
gathered threads of chance that melt and bind
the images in tapestries of knowing;"

welding, yes...

I so agree... those that preach the most about each being allowed to choose their own beliefs are often the ones chastizing those of us who utilize that right.

I'll be looking for more of your words.

A deep write, dear icebox, and of course I'm thinking about what you say - conclusions take a bit longer and will probably be wrong anyway.

"it is then the knowing that can not be unwoven,"

And oh you know I've tried, too.

Oh Dear

How many teachers I have had to listen to and then be examined on what I learned from them.

How many salesmen I haven’t had to listen to then bought their products because I wanted them only to wonder later did I really need it.

How much brainwashing have I undergone with adverts on the TV err I even found myself humming Crazy Frog one day and I don’t like the thing.

I think you have to be what could be termed old and past it before you can sit back and think what the real truth is.... Otherwise a lack of worldly (or wordy? ) experience catches you out so easily....

I found this poem that I had missed and I like it very much. You have a way of getting to the truth of the matter, Ice Box.
