I was thinkin’ back this mornin’-
On my West Texas roots.
Of days spent in the saddle,
And dust upon my boots.

Of cowboys I have worked beside,
And friends who’ve long gone on.
Broncs only fit for dog food,
And some good ones I have known.

Of living in the bunkhouse-
And sleepin’ on the ground…
Of riding in the sandstorms,
And when rain was pouring down.

Of watching desert sunsets-
And admiring God, so wise…
Who could come up with the palette,
To produce such lovely skies.

I count myself a blessed man-
To have seen those many miles,
I can live with all the tears I’ve shed-
They are far outweighed by smiles.

I realize my crossing-
Is prob’ly drawing near.
But I can face my Maker,
Without a shred of fear.

For years ago I faced the fact-
I was a sinner born…
And knelt upon a ranch house floor-
Of my rebellion shorn-

I called upon the Saviour-
From the Book I learned about-
He heard me, and He changed me.
And that beyond a doubt.

So if I live, I’ll live for Him-
And when I’m dead and gone…
I’ll dwell in fairer country far,
Than man has ever known.

I love the way you think and put it down on these blue pages. "late"
