The demon clings
To the walls
Over which
It writhes and crawls

It ever lusts
For each step
Hoping chance
Brings one misstep

my understanding of the word is "your shadow"...in order to write the way you do, I would say you are in touch with your "shadow", I just like the way the word doppleganger rolls off the tongue.
