Origins
Where did our origins start, Was it from a piece of clay, Or were we some integral part In the tree tops far away.
Did we with apes in tall trees climb And thru’ time have changed our looks, Were we ape-men at the dawn of time Read about in our history books.
Some where in that distant past Before the advent of religion, Its still the source of discussion vast, The starting roots of our religion.
In Tanzania Olduvui Gorge Is a hidden place that centuries span, It’s where anthropologist Mary Leaky Found our first prehistoric man.
On my office wall there hangs there on The written record of family tree, On it the names of folks long gone, A blood line preceding me.
English Scotch and Irish names Are on our ancestors scroll But as the fires of history flames It is but two enturies old.
What of the folk who’ve gone before Down history’s dim dark path, Surprises many there’d be in store If we could look back in aftermath.
Christians believe God made all things, That he saved all in Noah’s Ark, But time and change controversy brings As sure as light precedes the dark.
Some folk think that we evolved, Of truth could there be a smidgeon, Or will the truth ever be resolved Of the authentic roots of our origin.

I think it all depends on who you as an individual choose to believe...do you want to believe that God created man or do you want to believe a man that probably doesn't believe in God who is determined to dig up some old bones and present them as our ancestors...James

Earth Angel, Arctic Wind and James, thank you for reading my poem. We have a writer's group meeting once a month and at each meeting someone suggests a title for the following month, and origins is what someone suggested. We all have to our best with the topic chosen. This was my effort. Hope you liked it.

Perhaps we will never truely know the origin of our species but it is always healthy to wonder.
