Cassandra Danced Whiskey’s amber fire, first of the night, splashed my throat like molten lava as I downed the double shot, grimaced, closed my eyes . . . ahhhh – it always purged whatever was stuck there. This time it was going to take more than that. A lot more. The thoughts weren’t going to be washed away by a little burn, or catch in my breath. Not this time. “Fast Cars” on the jukebox for the third time and Cassandra danced - slow jazz, viscous, easy flowing down her spine, sliding beneath the bareness of her feet. “Fast Cars”, her fourth quarter in a row. Boilermaker! Beer and amber. Quick eraser. Soul smoother. Headache maker. Three in a row, fast as I can. Cassandra’s quarter buys “Low Spark of Highheeled Boys” and her sinuous moves snake in rhythmic circles just beyond my reaching hands. Morning – I remember the floor reaching out for me, hands stroking my face, fast cars, highheeled boys, flesh on mine . . . Cassandra dancing on my chest. Whiskey’s amber fire . . . C’mon bartender, set’em up like last night. And hey . . . here’s some quarters - ask Cassandra – to dance… © wesley james beard, jr. july 2007 [This message has been edited by jwesley (07-21-2007 10:32 PM).] |

Wow. I love this. I saved it to my library. Sorry I am not more articulate, but I am still at that bar watching Cassandra dance. A |

Wow, wonderfully descriptive James. You've taken the reader "right there" along with the sights, sounds and smells. Really well done. Much enjoyed. Best wishes, /Kit |
