Checking In Today A minister entering his church at lunch time one day Decided to pause by the altar and see who’d come to pray. Just then the back door opened, a man came down the isle, The minister frowned as he saw the man hadn’t shaved in a while. His shirt was kind’a shabby and his coat was worn and frayed The man then knelt and bowed his head, then rose and walked away And in the days that followed, each noon- time came this chap Where he’d kneel for just a moment, a lunch box in his lap. The minister’s suspicions began to grow with robbery the focal fear, He decided to stop the man this day & ask what are you doing here, The old man said he worked down the road & lunch was half an hour Lunch- time was his prayer time for finding strength and power. I stay for only moments, for the factory is quite a way As I kneel here talking to the Lord, this is kind of what I say, I just came again to tell you Lord how happy I have been Since we’ve found each other’s friendship & you took away my sin. Don’t know much of how to pray but I think about you every day, So Jesus, this is Jim just checking in again today, The Minister feeling foolish told Jim that that was fine He told him he was welcome, to come and pray at anytime. Time to go, Jim smiled, said thanks as he hurried to the door The minister knelt then at the altar, as he had often done before, His cold heart melted, warmed with love & met with Jesus there, As the tears flowed within his heart, he repeated old Jim’s prayer. I just came again to tell you Lord how happy I have been Since we found each other’s friendship & you took away my sin, I don’t know much of how to pray but I think about you every day, So Jesus this is Jim again just checking in today. Past noon one day the minister noticed that old Jim hadn’t come As more days passed without him he began to worry some, At the store he asked about old Jim, learning he was ill The hospital staff were worried too for he’d given them a thrill. The week that Jim was with them brought changes in the ward, His smiles, a joy contagious, changing people his reward, The head nurse couldn’t understand why Jim was always glad, When no flowers calls or cards would come, not one visitor he had. The minister standing by his bed, voiced the nurse concern, No friends came to show they cared, he had nowhere to turn, Looking surprised old Jim spoke up and with a winsome smile, The nurse is wrong, she couldn’t know that Gods in here all the while. Every day at noon He’s here, a dear friend of mine you see, He sits right down & takes my hand, leans close & says to me, I just came again to tell you Jim how happy I have been Since we found this friendship & I took away your sin. I always love to hear you pray and think about you every day So Jim old friend, this is Jesus, checking in today. ` |

Linda, you say just the nicest things, I think you must have been born with a smile on your face, for it comes through in your responses as well as in your poetry. You said in your response the other day that your name is enclosed in mine and that we had something in common. Well I have a daughter named Linda so I think that could be the case. Thank you dear lady, have a great day, warm hugs. Lindsay |
