MIRRORS I can’t pretend that life is sweet For bitter moments sweep the breeze Nor can I hide the ravages And callous deeds of this disease It eats away so hauntingly The essence of my strength, my mind What part of me, what little part Unknowingly is left behind? It is the contents of a heart It is the contents of a tear It is the strain of daily life It is the pain, it is the fear It is the night of sleeplessness It is the dawn of constancy It is the day before my eyes That’s whittled to simplicity Where victory comes in little steps And mundane chores become a goal Where looking into mirrors only Yields reflection of the soul More real the image of the face As empty moments slowly pass More shallow are the eyes that gaze But deeper is the looking glass Much more profound the silent thought When loved ones come to gather near And often joy of endless depth Is in the contents of a tear Elizabeth Santos 9/21/07 |

Elizabeth!!!!!! Awesome feelings and emotions are shared in this piece! I cannot describe to you my favorite parts, but as a whole you have described with perfection the angst one feels when suffering both physical and mental pain. Thank you for sharing. MIRRORS "I can’t pretend that life is sweet For bitter moments sweep the breeze" >> This brings shivers to my spine. "What part of me, what little part Unknowingly is left behind?" >> We all wonder this from time to time. "Where victory comes in little steps And mundane chores become a goal Where looking into mirrors only Yields reflection of the soul" >> well said "Much more profound the silent thought When loved ones come to gather near And often joy of endless depth Is in the contents of a tear" >> Your closing stanza is the most powerful of all. A perfect ending. |

But deeper is the looking glass Much more profound the silent thought ---------------------------- most any time you pick up a pen...we are gifted with profundity... this one leaves a bittersweet lump in the throat and a tug on the heart. So good to read your rhymes again lovely poetess Liz. Writing poetry is easy. You need only stare at a piece of blank paper until your forehead bleeds. |

I have never been a pretender, myself. Although, a little sad, this is beautifully written. As always! |

Good grief Lizzie, you made me just thinking you could write this sweetie. Maybe I better come down and make you laugh a bit one of these days soon. |

Lady Santos... I began Passions addressing you as such, and still, you remain, just that. A lady - in waiting - but not without doing. You write as if nothing in this lifespan has yet to take your heart/soul/mind from us. It is my extreme desire/wish/prayer that nothing ever will. I remain, always, one of your most humble admirers. Love, |

"More real the image of the face As empty moments slowly pass More shallow are the eyes that gaze But deeper is the looking glass" beautiful, sad, honest and raw. My heart bleeds. "too bad ignorance isn't painful" |

Liz, it pains me to know that you suffer so. Yet, in spite of your physical encumbrances, you are still able to spread your light through your considerable talent of writing. Sending loving, healing, and comforting hugs to you, Linda |

Does is help that others share your pain through your words? - I pray it does because you deserve the very best life has to offer. a good commitee can decimate communication. |

Dear Elizabeth, this is such a discriptive piece of writing and left me thinking in many different directions, you give ways of inspiration and so much more than you might think to us all. I hope you are well my friend, keep writing, Expression lives in your words and we await to journey through them again. Thank you for the sharing. Rick |

Dear One, Your generous nature has you sharing these deep insights and the sharing of them is felt as such. So often I wished my husband would speak of what he was feeling but he remaind quiet as he did thoughtout most of his life. Sharing such as this is the ultimate gift you can give.It hurts to write and hurts as much to read but I think we all benefit and I thank you sincerely."late" |
