This dwelling we inhabit is so cosy and warm, our things scattered freely around. My eyes drink in the space we’ve created my nose smells our fragrance, and my ears resound to the sound of the wishing and splishing of our washing machine as the bowl goes round and round with the dryer thumping next door and the baby bumping as he trips on the floor. And when he’s grumpy he’ll scream and he’ll bawl and my ears are loving it all! There’s an entry phone in the hall that goes buzz buzz buzz. I would love to hear a beep but sadly nothing does. And when we’re trying to sleep our bedroom door bangs and the wind chime clangs. There’s the ringing of our phone and the light in our bathroom makes a constant drone when it’s on. Hear the flushshsh of the chain and the whooshshsh of the taps shh, listen to the drip drip drip of the rain as the sky clouds over again and the blood pumps in my vein. We have peace but it’s rarely quiet and what drives me insane are the odd moments of silence that is deafening… When my woman’s making clothes there’s a sewing machine noise and when my child is pushing buttons sirens blare out of his toys as he sits with perfect poise listening, transfixed. We don’t have double glazing, wooden frames need to be fixed and there’s only one pane so we’re lulled by the roaring of the traffic going by. Downstairs comes up to complain when I play electric music - or at least that’s what she says, the truth is that she’s torn – as the rats followed the Pied Piper, she is compelled and drawn: charmed by the harmony of electronic melody, the song that’s being born. I think she thinks the vibe is ace but doesn’t like the storming bass thud, thud, thudding on her ceiling. For eight inspiring years, I’ve been lucky to enjoy all the sound that appears; the rhythm of our flat is music to my ears. |

Hello, ybear! I enjoyed your debuting poem very much. I like the down-to-earth reality of it. The following line stood out for me: "We have peace but it’s rarely quiet" You are a man of grace and gratitude and I welcome you to pip's circle of friends. Giving you a warm, welcoming hug, Earth Angel |
