Cheap charcoal
calls for drastic measures.

Should have gathered wood.

I am well aware of
the instructions on the starter fluid...

"Never apply this product
on lighted fire or hot coals."

But, cheap charcoal
calls for drastic measures.

You do what you have to do.

My sons often watch me BBQ

Sometimes for pleasure.
Often due to necessity.

I make sure they understand
the reasons behind the instructions.

Do as I say...
Not as I do.

While I do
what I have to do.

Cheap charcoal
calls for drastic measures.

Like...
Walking
to the grocery store...
With a backpack
and a broken ankle.

Like...
Splitting hotdogs
lengthways
in order to get two meals
from a single pack...
Two weeks left in the month.

Do what you have to do.

I hope you never have to.

Do as I say.
Not as I do.

But always...
Do what you have to do.

Regardless of instructions.

Determination
Fortitude
Knowing "secrets"
Do not make the
blisters less painful.
But...
They come with the territory of...
"Do what you have to do"

Maybe...
The first noticeable difference
between man and ape is that
we burned off all our fur...

Doing what we had to do ?

My sons are fully aware
of the instructions.

My blisters are a well kept secret.

Hi, XO! How are the blisters?

"Do as I say.
Not as I do."

~ I'd be a wealthy woman if I had a dollar for every time my Mom would say that to me while I was growing! ~ Mind you, there are those who believe that I still haven't grown up!

It sounds as though your sons are learning from the best, Dear Fire Starter. lol

Hugs to you!

XO Linda

Excellent.  Excellent.  Excellent.  You really took a creative spin on expressing these sentiments and, in my humble opinion, did an exceptional job.  Your poetry, itself, reminds me of a steam of lighter fluid.  Good job.

Understanding this write, after living 6 years in Alaska...often doing 'what I had to do'
for survival. Good to read you again!
Hope you remember to gather some dry kindling.
(PS..Old duct tape pieces rolled up into a small ball work great when desperation hits.
But keep a small window space open for fresh air!)

From my little branch on the tree I have seen it ... My father in law lived with us once and every time he lit that bbg, I had a sore spot on my tongue from repressing the words that wanted to come out. He left the bbq right near the house  next to the propane gas tank and poured on the fluid.

And hotdogs split in half tase sooo good!
